Growing

Growing Blue Cheese: flowering time, yield and breeder specs

Seed versions of Blue Cheese flower in about 50–70 days indoors, depending on the breeder, and are harvested outdoors between late September and November in the Northern Hemisphere.1,2,3,4 Leafly rates it easy to grow and says it does best in cool climates.5

What the plant is like

Breeders describe a compact, bushy plant: Barney's Farm describes its version as short and stocky, with sturdy side branches that fill out with dense, resinous colas, and the Zamnesia listing of Big Buddha's version describes bushy growth with an impressive central cola.2,6 Dinafem says its version branches well, packs compact buds and can turn purplish as temperatures drop.1

What to watch for

Expect a strong smell: Weedmaps calls Blue Cheese highly fragrant, and Dinafem warns that anti-odor filters are likely to be necessary for its Cheese, a seed version of the parent strain.7,8

Cooler conditions come up repeatedly: Leafly says it does best in cool climates, Weedmaps says it resists mold and mildew as long as it is kept slightly cooler, and Dinafem reports good resistance to moisture and pests for its version.1,5,7

Autoflowering versions

Big Buddha's Blue Cheese Automatic crosses its Blue Cheese with a third-generation autoflower; the breeder gives 75–90 days from seed to harvest, and SeedFinder lists a second place in the hydro category of the 2013 Spannabis Cannabis Champions Cup.9 Royal Queen Seeds' Blue Cheese Auto (Blueberry × Cheese × ruderalis) lists 70–80 days from germination to harvest and up to 16% THC.10

Seeds and the law in the US

Under the amended federal definition of hemp, viable seeds from cannabis plants above 0.3% total THC, including THCA, are not hemp.11 Congress delayed that exclusion, with most of the new definition, from Nov 12 to Dec 11, 2026; only the exclusion of products with cannabinoids the plant cannot produce naturally starts on Nov 12.12 Home cultivation rules are set by each state. This site does not sell seeds.
