Quick answers

Is Blue Cheese indica or sativa?

Indica-dominant: Leafly lists it as an indica, AllBud and Barney's Farm put it at 80% indica, and Royal Queen Seeds' version at 60%.1,2,9,10 Even so, Big Buddha Seeds entered it as a sativa at the 2006 High Times Cannabis Cup, where it placed third in that category.11

What strain is Blue Cheese?

A cannabis hybrid of Blueberry and UK Cheese, a Skunk #1 phenotype, first cultivated by Big Buddha Seeds.2,3 Weedmaps notes that it got its name more from its heritage than from its aroma or taste.3

How strong is Blue Cheese?

High in lab tests, with a caveat: the median total THC across 288 state lab tests was 25.93%, and 68.1% of tests reached 25% or more, but 269 of the tests come from Maryland and 91.0% from a single Maryland lab; Michigan's 10 tests (a small sample) had a median of 14.21%.5 Leafly lists 18% THC and AllBud 20%.1,2

What does Blue Cheese taste like?

Savory and sweet at once: on Weedmaps, 46% of flavor reports say blue cheese, 31% cheese and 23% berry, and Leafly users list blue cheese, cheese and pungent.2,3 Big Buddha’s own description pairs a sweet berry scent with the musky background of the original Cheese.6

How long does Blue Cheese take to flower?

About 50–70 days indoors, depending on the seed version: 50–55 days for Dinafem's, 55–60 for Royal Queen Seeds' (about 60–65 in its product text), 60–65 for Barney's Farm's and 8–10 weeks for Big Buddha's.6,8,9,10 Outdoors, harvest dates run from late September to November.6,10

Who created Blue Cheese?

Big Buddha Seeds, the company founded by Milo Yung.7 According to the breeder description on SeedFinder, it crossed a Blueberry male with its original UK Cheese mother, then chose a fruity male from those crosses as the father of Blue Cheese.6

A 2006 cup placing and a small US footprint

At the 2006 High Times Cannabis Cup in Amsterdam, Big Buddha Seeds' Blue Cheese placed third in the Sativa Cup, the same year the company's Big Buddha Cheese won the Indica Cup, and SeedFinder also lists a third place among sativas at the 2006 IC 420 Growers Cup.6,11,12 Big Buddha calls Blue Cheese its "most popular multi award winning" strain.13

It does not appear in the US sales rankings we checked: Leafly's best-selling strains of 2025, Headset's 2020 strain sales report and The Marijuana Herald's state-by-state list of top sellers published in September 2026.14,15,16

Leafly shows 2,857 user ratings for it, and AllBud says it is fairly easy to find in Colorado and on the West Coast and harder to find elsewhere.1,2 On Oct 3, 2026, Weedmaps menus listed its flower at 44 stores around Los Angeles and at no more than 4 stores in any other market we checked.17
